The research project of 2024-2025, conducted by Master students following the Art History seminar “Belgian Fashion” at the Ghent University, aimed to provide and share in-depth knowledge about the trajectories of Belgian fashion. Challenging the common focus on post-1980 narratives within Belgian fashion history, it gave rare insights into the layered meanings of dress and their entanglements in broader cultural histories from 1830 until 1980.

To understand the wealth of Belgian’s fashion history, this 2024-2025 seminar, relied on resources in the Royal Museums of Art and History in Brussels, the MoMu library in Antwerp, and The Vliegende Bladen archive in the special collections at Ghent University’s Book Tower.
